I have a wide range of interests, hobbies, and tastes, some a little off the beaten path.
I exercise my creativity in a variety of ways. I like to draw, paint, sew, and enjoy making costumes. I recently tried my hand in wood carving and started carving my first tiki. It's not easy! A work in progress, I've been making many mistakes, but learning so much along the way. A good set of chisels are absolutely essential. I'm still a little afraid of power tools, so for now my rubber mallets have been my best friends.
I enjoy boxing and kickboxing: both watching and participating. I never realized or appreciated how much concentrated energy and skill is involved in these sports. Until you've sparred with a live person, you won't understand.
Being somewhat of a control freak, Mountain biking is right up my alley. It's all up to me. Just me, the bike, and the dirt trail. Uphill doesn't seem to be a problem, but I crawl on the downhills. I still haven't got the knack for leaning my weight correctly on the downhills. I'm embarrassed to admit that more often than not, I'll walk my bike down a steep hill, cursing, muttering, upset with myself. Knowing your physical limitations is a must in reducing the chances of getting injured, but pushing yourself a little each time is important.
A natural packrat, I collect stuff: vintage clothing, jewelry, hats, purses, gloves, ashtrays. If it's old, dusty and musty, I'm in love.
A fan of Polynesian Pop Culture: I collect Tiki Mugs, artwork and carvings.
I've been learning to play the Ukelele. I have no natural musical talent, so I'm practicing to be superbly mediocre!
I enjoy mixing and drinking Tropical Cocktails. There's nothing like a well-made drink. A cocktail umbrella is a must, and at times, the wedge of fresh fruit has doubled as dinner.
I recently purchased a new vehicle which is perfect for road trips. My vehicle's maiden voyage was to San Francisco to check out some old and new tiki bars, restaurants and/or landmarks. (See my San Francisco Tiki Bar Road Trip blog for the details.) I had a blast!
I hope to add more 3-4 day weekend and/or road trips this year.
Have Tiki Mug will travel! Cheers!
